New Inventory

New Inventory has come through our doors so fast this summer that there has been virtually no time to process it, blog on it, and post it for sale before much of it sells.  We have more customers than ever in some process of home builds and commercial interior design projects and everyone is on the hunt for period architectural elements, farm house kitchen sinks and entire vintage bath outfits…vintage pedestal sinks, trough sinks, claw-foot and skirted bathtubs, toilets and even foot baths. 

We continue to get requests for multiple matching doors and ironically we’ve been buying sets of doors, interior and exterior, from old homes and buildings throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri.

This Circa 1900 exterior door set is a rare find! The solid wood quarter light exterior door is a surprising 9 feet tall by 34 inches wide.

Notice the unusual transom style window pain in the upper portion of this tall door. It seems that the hinges, knobs, locks, and springs are all original. 

Along with this door, we purchased its original screen door which is still tight and functional. Only one short turning is missing but all other decorative pieces are in-tact. The screen has an interesting patina and has a density that leads us to believe it is original. If you’re working through a small house build or remodel this door set has such architectural appeal that you could build your entry remodel or new house build!

Exceptional 1930 Kohler farm sink just dropped from St. Louis to our newly established Midwest hub in metro Kansas City

Out of St Louis, Missouri, comes this impressive 1930 Kohler, single bowl, double drainboard, extra wide rim, apron farm sink. Believe it or not, this sink is in original condition.

It’s clean and boosts a good amount of its original factory shine.  The back-splash is slightly lower than most which will make it an easy fit under the kitchen window.  It measures 60 inches wide, 22 inches deep and 16 inches tall.  This particular style farm sink can wall mount with legs or cabinet mount.

This is the iconic farm sink style that is in high demand and to find one in the condition is like finding a needle in haystack. Our customers are finding a variety of applications beyond the kitchen.

One of our favorite finds of the month are these two immaculate matching 1943 vitreous China wall hanging bathroom sinks. Both are in original condition, no visible wear and still showing off their original factory sheen. 

The slim but functional size of these sinks makes them an ideal children’s bath or micro master bath application.  If you want authentic high-quality vintage flare in your new period home build or remodel these are more than a perfect choice.

Coming off the truck this week is this set of solid wood panel rolling pocket doors from a home in St. Louis, Missouri, dating back to 1888.

Both are in original condition including hardware and their unusual top rolling mechanisms.  As rolling pocket doors this hardware was hidden in the walls but now we love to show off the mechanics in our barn-slider styled doors. 

Each door is approximately 95 inches tall and 30 inches wide. These doors will create a solidly authentic barn-style rolling door design feature in the best of spaces!

We don’t typically break ranks and blog more than once a month, but as we’re traveling up into Nebraska and finding some really unusual pieces, we thought it would be good to preview these reclaimed antiques door sets as soon as possible. We’re pretty certain they will sell before they’re off the truck.

The antique double entry doors have a great ready to install finish with all their original ornate brass hardware. These are high end, solid oak and one of a kind lighted entry doors. Old world quality and history!

The large scale solid wood vintage barn doors are the real deal as well but consider their size! The pair together are 10 feet wide and a few inches over 9 feet tall. These will make impressive sliders in home, garage or barn!

Although both sets are exterior doors they are well suited for indoor applications both as hinged and sliders for anyone with wall space and ceiling height to show them off.

1921 Sears catalog “Bathroom Outfit” ad highlighting the claw foot bathtub

The “tub” is tops on the list of the home’s “happy places”!  From birth we find sweet relief submerged in warm water, but when it comes to modern architecture, we have thrown the baby out with the bath water. From mid-century forward, home building has given way to design and dollar efficiency and tossed out one of the most therapeutic and iconic fixtures in the house…the expansive, contoured, heat retaining, porcelain covered, cast iron tub.

The claw-foot or skirt styled free-standing cast iron bathtub developed into the long-running, commonly affordable standard of the early indoor plumbing era. Consequently, by mid-century, the deep reservoir and architectural appeal gave way to shallow framed-in basins with merely a front profile. This provided nothing more than a glorified shower pan and a mere puddle of bath water. And so, the therapeutic luxury and needfulness to regularly and fully immerse oneself in a bathtub… in the confines of their own home… was disregarded. 

Affordable jetted bathtubs from the 80’s and 90’s offered a better bath but no style

It wasn’t until the 80’s and 90’s when jetted tubs became affordable that we revisited the idea of building extra feet back into the bathroom for a deeper more eye-catching bathtub. As they say, “What comes around, goes around” and here we are…resurrecting, restoring and once again reinstalling the iconic deep basin cast iron bathtub.

Thankfully these indestructible and absolutely timeless personal “spas” have survived earth, wind, and fire, and can be wholeheartedly appreciated once more thanks to businesses like ours who collect them and, after a little modern-day restoration, make them installation ready for home owners, builders and re-modelers.

We shopped through Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri this month, and found ourselves surprised, finding complete sets of antique doors and rare high quality vitreous China.  As time goes on we’re more and more appreciative of finding architectural elements that have retained the function and form of their era and solid enough to do their job beautifully for another generation.

Unpacked and ready for sale! Two raised panel pine doors dating back to the 1920’s. Originally pocket doors taken from their original home in St Joseph, Missouri which sectioned off the dining room from sitting room. These can be installed as hinged, pocket or sliders. Each door is 8’5” tall and 50” wide.

We’re excited to offload these and make them available! Seven sets of turn of the century solid wood interior doors with frames and transoms removed from a building on Main St in Denison, TX.  Finding seven matching doors and transoms is not common and to have all in their original frames is rare!  The doors themselves are 36”x83” and the over all height of the frames are approximately 112”.

This find was happy moment! Eight identical 48” vintage American Standard cast iron porcelain trough sinks in original condition, purchased out of an old factory in Greenville, TX. All cleaned up, in very good original condition, and installation ready! The faucets for these sinks are still made and sold by Kohler and other major plumbing outfitters.

Just now in our possession!! Standard Castleton Ming green vitreous China wall mount sink with solid brass chrome plated Queen Ann legs.  This beautiful sink was removed from the bathroom where it was originally purchased new and installed around 1930 in a pristinely maintained turn-of-the-century home in Coffeyville, KS. This sink’s catalog list price in 1930 was  $425.  That’s $8000 in today’s money and would have offered the finest look and function of its time!

We are really enjoying this rare find! This pair of 8 ft tall, solid oak doors were taken from a by-gone department store in downtown Waco, Texas, dating back to the 1920’s to 30’s!

These swinging doors are 42 inches wide, 96 inches tall, have their original brass hardware and hinges and their original beveled glazing! We love finding a set of doors bearing all its original elements!

These door can be framed to hang separately or as a pair. They can be installed as swingers, hinged, pockets, or sliders! The wood framing is solid and has the constitution and dimension to reverse the hinges.

The options are many and exciting! These doors are solid, stately, original and grand! Beyond vintage and Texas!

The Round Top Antique Show, for those unfamiliar, is a miles-long market from flea to high end merchandise with vendors from all over the world. Ongoing twice a year for over 50 years, this Texas phenomenon engulfs Round Top, TX, along with its highway frontage stretching 40 miles from Brenham to La Grange. 

“Round Top” has evolved from a local provincial antique fare to a colossal celebrity event hosting oceans of both wholesale and retail shoppers!  Vendors from all over the United States convene to sell their wares, pleasing the crowds with just about anything antique and beyond!

Beautiful Bathtub thanks the vendors (of whom most) haul hundreds of thousands of pounds of merchandise across country two times a year and keep their tents up and doors open for days at a time to connect with and satisfy their dedicated clientele.

We usually spend two weeks, both spring and fall shows, shopping the entire stretch of the event and can count on acquiring a great selection of antique and vintage porcelain fixtures in any and every condition.  This spring was no exception!  We returned with farm sinks, claw-foot bathtubs, drinking fountains, vintage bathroom sinks and much more.

The Little things in life are often the best things in life! This little find is refreshment, beauty and beyond vintage in less than one square foot of space!

We’ve decided to call it a vintage micro drinking fountain and, in its day, it would occupy wall space in small offices or high traffic corridors.

This vitreous china drinking fountain dates back to the 1920’s, is in original condition, with well preserved and obvious original factory sheen.

Drinking fountains are making a strong come-back in residential and commercial applications such as garages, exercise and mud rooms, home offices, man-caves, coffee shops and neo-vintage cafes.

The possibilities are endless and a great way to keep quality drinking water in convenient accessible areas all while enjoying, on a small scale, the art and energy of vintage porcelain fixtures.

Here’s an “earthy” find! Unmarked and European earthenware wall mount vessel sink! Rustic, minimal and Old World!

Not ornate but unique! Just 54″ wide! Making it one of the smallest of its type that we’ve found in a long time. These kitchen sinks were originally manufactured well over 60″ for the kitchens of their day. With modern prep spaces now taking the lion-share of the kitchen floor space the demand for these shorter farm sinks is high!

Keep an eye out for more on the restoration of this “real deal” farm sink! It won’t be ours long and I suspect it will be sold before restoration is complete!
