September is off to a fast-paced start and we’re not sure where August ended and September began!

We’ve recently purchased warehouse space in the KC area that is allowing us to reach higher into the Midwest for vintage and antique inventory: antique solid wood doors, vintage porcelain, concrete and soap stone sinks, vintage toilets, vitreous China pedestal sinks, cast iron drainboard farm sinks and so much more.

Let’s take a look at just a few of our choice picks!

This 1955 Standard vitreous China vintage wall mount bathroom sink is in exceptional original condition. With its original hardware and robust factory sheen, it looks almost as new as the day it was made! This is truly a time capsule piece and waiting for that one who is seeking a period correct authentic application for their mid-century bath remodel. The style is timeless, stately, masculine, straightforward and mint! Available and installation ready!

Early 20th century vintage utility sink fully restored, installation ready and sold!!

We have a variety of these sinks going to restoration and up for sale.  Many of our buyers are purchasing them before restoration; filling original fixture holes to customize their plumbing and faucet placement.  But not this one!

Our client saw the beauty and complexity of its original design right down to the soap holder mount with the vision of installing this to original specs!  Whether you are a purist or a visionary, we can restore to your desired perfect ending!

Beautiful Early 1900’s claw-foot bathtub, fully restored and setting on copper plated feet! This antique tub is 5-1/2’ long and has one of the more unusual upward profiles, with its feet positioned a little more to the underside, giving this tub a tall assertive appearance. The rim has a nice wide gentle roll that adds to an overall artistic flare.

Restoration included resurfacing both the interior and exterior in American Standard white, and filling all fixture holes except its overflow for wall or floor mount plumbing and hardware.  Available and installation ready!

Reclaiming the original antique plumbing fixtures from a 1924 colonial revival home in St Louis, MO. Toilets, wall sinks, pedestal sinks and more.  All pieces are in good condition and getting cleaned and ready for sale.  Call or text 830-385-1721 for more information!

1940’s era concrete sink now trending in the new/old house laundry room or garage…even seeing them installed in kitchens! This sink is formed in metal frame work and includes a washboard and soap rests. Concrete has an industrial and iconic look that gives deep confident meaning to its space!

Midcentury soapstone farm style sink with single bowl and single drain board. Soapstone, also known as steatite, is a natural metamorphic rock made mostly of the mineral talc (combined with varying amounts of chlorite, mica, and quartz) which gives it a soft, smooth, and soapy feel.  It is softer than granite or quartz, but it is remarkably dense.  Soapstone is highly resistant to heat and chemicals, allowing hot pots to be placed directly on it without damage.  It is naturally non-porous, meaning soapstone does not stain easily, it resists bacteria, and does not require chemical sealers.  Soapstone changes color over time, darkening and developing a unique rich patina with handling and exposure to oil.  This surface is a popular choice for kitchens and production spaces because it resists acids and high temperatures.

This soapstone sink is 60” inches wide, 25” deep and 18” tall overall and would have originally been mounted to some kind of metal framed base.  With proper support this sink can set into a counter or custom-made stand.

Along with our plumbing fixtures we’ve brought home to Texas a variety of solid wood doors, concrete yard art, stained glass, ornate architectural iron, and hope to be posting it to Facebook, Instagram and YouTube over the next few weeks!

New Inventory has come through our doors so fast this summer that there has been virtually no time to process it, blog on it, and post it for sale before much of it sells.  We have more customers than ever in some process of home builds and commercial interior design projects and everyone is on the hunt for period architectural elements, farm house kitchen sinks and entire vintage bath outfits…vintage pedestal sinks, trough sinks, claw-foot and skirted bathtubs, toilets and even foot baths.

We continue to get requests for multiple matching doors and ironically we’ve been buying sets of doors, interior and exterior, from old homes and buildings throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri.

This Circa 1900 exterior door set is a rare find! The solid wood quarter light exterior door is a surprising 9 feet tall by 34 inches wide.

Notice the unusual transom style window pain in the upper portion of this tall door. It seems that the hinges, knobs, locks, and springs are all original.

Along with this door, we purchased its original screen door which is still tight and functional. Only one short turning is missing but all other decorative pieces are in-tact. The screen has an interesting patina and has a density that leads us to believe it is original. If you’re working through a small house build or remodel this door set has such architectural appeal that you could build your entry remodel or new house build!

Exceptional 1930 Kohler farm sink just dropped from St. Louis to our newly established Midwest hub in metro Kansas City

1930 Kohler farm sink pictured before clean up

Out of St Louis, Missouri, comes this impressive 1930 Kohler, single bowl, double drainboard, extra wide rim, apron farm sink. Believe it or not, this sink is in original condition.

1930 Kohler farm sink pictured after clean up

It’s clean and boosts a good amount of its original factory shine.  The back-splash is slightly lower than most which will make it an easy fit under the kitchen window.  It measures 60 inches wide, 22 inches deep and 16 inches tall.  This particular style farm sink can wall mount with legs or cabinet mount.

This is the iconic farm sink style that is in high demand and to find one in the condition is like finding a needle in haystack. Our customers are finding a variety of applications beyond the kitchen.

One of our favorite finds of the month are these two immaculate matching 1943 vitreous China wall hanging bathroom sinks. Both are in original condition, no visible wear and still showing off their original factory sheen.

The slim but functional size of these sinks makes them an ideal children’s bath or micro master bath application.  If you want authentic high-quality vintage flare in your new period home build or remodel these are more than a perfect choice.

Showing all the angles to capture the pristine condition of these vitreous China sinks

Coming off the truck this week is this set of solid wood panel rolling pocket doors from a home in St. Louis, Missouri, dating back to 1888.

Both are in original condition including hardware and their unusual top rolling mechanisms.  As rolling pocket doors this hardware was hidden in the walls but now we love to show off the mechanics in our barn-slider styled doors.

Each door is approximately 95 inches tall and 30 inches wide. These doors will create a solidly authentic barn-style rolling door design feature in the best of spaces!

More! More! More coming! Our truck is on the road now collecting from St. Joseph to St. Louis, Missouri and making stops in Kansas and Oklahoma before coming home to Texas. Watch for new listings. Never hesitate to call and ask if we have pictures of any items of interest not yet on the site. We’re always glad to help our clientele in their search for unique fixtures and design elements!

We don’t typically break ranks and blog more than once a month, but as we’re traveling up into Nebraska and finding some really unusual pieces, we thought it would be good to preview these reclaimed antiques door sets as soon as possible. We’re pretty certain they will sell before they’re off the truck.

Beating the press here and posting pictures and YouTube links for you to take a look at!!

The antique double entry doors have a great ready to install finish with all their original ornate brass hardware. These are high end, solid oak and one of a kind lighted entry doors. Old world quality and history!

The large scale solid wood vintage barn doors are the real deal as well but consider their size! The pair together are 10 feet wide and a few inches over 9 feet tall. These will make impressive sliders in home, garage or barn!

Although both sets are exterior doors they are well suited for indoor applications both as hinged and sliders for anyone with wall space and ceiling height to show them off.

As always, God bless and thanks for taking a look!

1921 Sears catalog “Bathroom Outfit” ad highlighting the claw foot bathtub

The “tub” is tops on the list of the home’s “happy places”!  From birth we find sweet relief submerged in warm water, but when it comes to modern architecture, we have thrown the baby out with the bath water. From mid-century forward, home building has given way to design and dollar efficiency and tossed out one of the most therapeutic and iconic fixtures in the house…the expansive, contoured, heat retaining, porcelain covered, cast iron tub.

1950’s ad promoting modern, space saving bathroom with shower bathtub concept

The claw-foot or skirt styled free-standing cast iron bathtub developed into the long-running, commonly affordable standard of the early indoor plumbing era. Consequently, by mid-century, the deep reservoir and architectural appeal gave way to shallow framed-in basins with merely a front profile. This provided nothing more than a glorified shower pan and a mere puddle of bath water. And so, the therapeutic luxury and needfulness to regularly and fully immerse oneself in a bathtub… in the confines of their own home… was disregarded.

Affordable jetted bathtubs from the 80’s and 90’s offered a better bath but no style

It wasn’t until the 80’s and 90’s when jetted tubs became affordable that we revisited the idea of building extra feet back into the bathroom for a deeper more eye-catching bathtub. As they say, “What comes around, goes around” and here we are…resurrecting, restoring and once again reinstalling the iconic deep basin cast iron bathtub.

Before and after of our porcelain resurfacing and claw foot restoration process

Thankfully these indestructible and absolutely timeless personal “spas” have survived earth, wind, and fire, and can be wholeheartedly appreciated once more thanks to businesses like ours who collect them and, after a little modern-day restoration, make them installation ready for home owners, builders and re-modelers.

Timeless function, comfort and design of the iconic claw foot bathtub

No bathroom fixture is more architecturally eye catching or more visually soul soothing than the iconic timeless claw-foot bathtub. Think about it…and give us a call!  We have a great surplus with all sizes available!

We shopped through Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri this month, and found ourselves surprised, finding complete sets of antique doors and rare high quality vitreous China.  As time goes on we’re more and more appreciative of finding architectural elements that have retained the function and form of their era and solid enough to do their job beautifully for another generation.

Unpacked and ready for sale! Two raised panel pine doors dating back to the 1920’s. Originally pocket doors taken from their original home in St Joseph, Missouri which sectioned off the dining room from sitting room. These can be installed as hinged, pocket or sliders. Each door is 8’5” tall and 50” wide.

We’re excited to offload these and make them available! Seven sets of turn of the century solid wood interior doors with frames and transoms removed from a building on Main St in Denison, TX.  Finding seven matching doors and transoms is not common and to have all in their original frames is rare!  The doors themselves are 36”x83” and the over all height of the frames are approximately 112”.

This find was happy moment! Eight identical 48” vintage American Standard cast iron porcelain trough sinks in original condition, purchased out of an old factory in Greenville, TX. All cleaned up, in very good original condition, and installation ready! The faucets for these sinks are still made and sold by Kohler and other major plumbing outfitters.

Just now in our possession!! Standard Castleton Ming green vitreous China wall mount sink with solid brass chrome plated Queen Ann legs.  This beautiful sink was removed from the bathroom where it was originally purchased new and installed around 1930 in a pristinely maintained turn-of-the-century home in Coffeyville, KS. This sink’s catalog list price in 1930 was  $425.  That’s $8000 in today’s money and would have offered the finest look and function of its time!

Sorting, picturing and listing a huge newly acquired load of vintage and antique hardware! We have a virtually endless inventory of faucets, fittings, accessories and miscellaneous plumbing parts dating back as far as the late 1800’s! Keep an eye on our website as we add new items weekly!

Two energetic design terms dancing around the home building and remodeling community are “new old house build” and “un-flipping”.

The “new/old house build” is new construction designed to replicate the charm and style of an historical home while “un-flipping” is the dedication to an historically accurate restoration, typically after years of multiple trend updates or budget remodels.

The “new/old house build” is an architectural design commitment to historical authenticity and “un-flipping” is a labor of love and duty to era, family and community; marrying renovation and historic restoration.

Both are passionate architectural pursuits and both are compelling builders and homeowners alike to source vintage and antique building materials and fixtures, often times spending months hunting “treasures” to create or revive with historical accuracy.

We here at Beautiful Bathtub are privileged and honored to part of your treasure hunt and appreciate beyond words the wonderful after-pictures we receive!  We have fixtures to authenticate virtually every era from turn-of-the-century to mid-century. We have a great inventory of new old stock (unused fixtures and hardware with some items still in their original crates)!

Watch for new inventory of antique and vintage toilets as well as sinks, bathtubs and vintage plumbing fixtures being added weekly to our website.

We offer professional resurfacing services for our fixtures or yours and can bring just about any cast iron, ceramic, or steel fixture back to life!

We are really enjoying this rare find! This pair of 8 ft tall, solid oak doors were taken from a by-gone department store in downtown Waco, Texas, dating back to the 1920’s to 30’s!

These swinging doors are 42 inches wide, 96 inches tall, have their original brass hardware and hinges and their original beveled glazing! We love finding a set of doors bearing all its original elements!

These door can be framed to hang separately or as a pair. They can be installed as swingers, hinged, pockets, or sliders! The wood framing is solid and has the constitution and dimension to reverse the hinges.

The options are many and exciting! These doors are solid, stately, original and grand! Beyond vintage and Texas!

Ideal for a wide variety of applications from a new house build to a historic restoration to restaurant or cafe redesign!

The Round Top Antique Show, for those unfamiliar, is a miles-long market from flea to high end merchandise with vendors from all over the world. Ongoing twice a year for over 50 years, this Texas phenomenon engulfs Round Top, TX, along with its highway frontage stretching 40 miles from Brenham to La Grange.

“Round Top” has evolved from a local provincial antique fare to a colossal celebrity event hosting oceans of both wholesale and retail shoppers!  Vendors from all over the United States convene to sell their wares, pleasing the crowds with just about anything antique and beyond!

Beautiful Bathtub thanks the vendors (of whom most) haul hundreds of thousands of pounds of merchandise across country two times a year and keep their tents up and doors open for days at a time to connect with and satisfy their dedicated clientele.

We usually spend two weeks, both spring and fall shows, shopping the entire stretch of the event and can count on acquiring a great selection of antique and vintage porcelain fixtures in any and every condition.  This spring was no exception!  We returned with farm sinks, claw-foot bathtubs, drinking fountains, vintage bathroom sinks and much more.

Most items will be restored and made available here on our site very soon! So stay tuned!  God bless… and thanks for taking a look!

This highly unusual double bowl farm sink is a style we rarely see come through the shop! It is a compact 36 inches wide which defies the norm. These apron front farm sinks usually measure a minimum of 42 inches wide.

With its 36 inch wide footprint it can very easily translate into a standard kitchen remodel, accommodating a standard sink base width.

Another of its unique qualities is the combo deep-and-shallow double bowl which pushes this sink style ahead of its time, offering a wider range of kitchen prep tasks in one area at one sink! Amenities many of us might think are too smart for vintage design when in reality it proves smart function has always dictated style!

This compact functional apron sink is sporting an understated but well defined art-deco skirting.

Over all, this farm sink offers latitude in size and installation, variety in function, and flare in design.

Cleaned and matte in appearance for a new old house kitchen remodel or you can choose resurfacing for a highly polished “unused” look.

Remember Me!

Nonco brand double drain board, single bowl, kitchen farm sink setting outside the first and only (very old) house it has ever occupied in the Piney Woods of Longview, TX! With its original legs and mounting brackets!

It’s not uncommon to find many of our vintage and antique fixtures setting outside just a matter of feet from where they were originally un-crated and installed decades before. This one takes the prize! Thanks to the outstanding durability of porcelain over cast iron, this sink only appears to be headed for the scrapyard!

What an outstanding reveal! No one would believe this farm sink was nearly junked!

This particular sink is up for sale and installation ready! AND has a couple of unique features. It is complete with all its original legs and mounting hardware. It’s length is a tight 54″ which is shorter than the typical double drainboard single bowl farm sink making it even more conveniently adaptable to modern kitchen layouts.
